Re: Does Anyone Wish to Practise English Conversation?
At the moment nothing is
me aware at all.
But I don´t stop to confess:
I do not like to call...

Re: Does Anyone Wish to Practise English Conversation?
English is spoken all over the world, so there are many different versions. Some are polite, some are slang, some are regional, some are educated, some are not. Polite English is used by the Queen and the BBC. 'Posh' people speak with an accent like the queen.

... and posh Americans are from Boston and speak with an accent like the Kennedys: *Ich bin ein Berliner*!

Re: Does Anyone Wish to Practise English Conversation?
At the "Secondary Grammar School" (in the 20th century ) we got to know by our teacher that the queen uses to speak "Upper Class English".
After 5 years of English lessons I became confronted with a Canadian cupple at my home-town. My father proudly said: "My son is able to understand English..." I wasn´t... And they were not able to understand me. I remember that they didn´t pronounce the "th" as I did. They said "witt" instead of "with". I was rather disappointed after this meeting and I had learned that English is not the same everywhere as well as German isn´t it, too.

I by myself am happy and proud, that Hauchdeutsch is spoken all over the world by few people only - and we've got one of them in our great board!

Don't expect to understand British accents, they vary enormously. It is hard for Scots and English to understand each other, or even people from different parts of England such as Yorkshire, Liverpool, etc. Wales has its own language, and its own accents.

You don't have to go to Scotland or Wales to NOT understand English any more. South coast of England is good enough for that. Once I was in Eastbourne I didn't even understand the word "station" as they pronounce it like "staischn", where the "a" was really spoken like a German "a". And: "Do you like it" was pronounced as "do you loik it". Horrible!

Re: Does Anyone Wish to Practise English Conversation?
My flesh began to creep just before! What a horrible pronouncation!
Now I believe to know for what reason I appreciate the conversation with the Queen at the five o`clock tea...
